B Corp certification across network

Wieden + Kennedy became the first global network to get B-Corp certified, a designation that measures a company’s entire social and environmental impact. In 2023, the agency became the first global advertising network to achieve B Corp certification across all nine offices in seven countries, with Mexico City to begin the process after one year of business.

Created Director of Social Impact

Following the B Corp process, Wieden+Kennedy created a first of its kind position at W+K, the Director of Social Impact. The role focuses on defining what sustainability means to the company and how it can help grow the business and clients’ business in a responsible way, covering operational policies, production protocols, and business and communication strategies.

Started global emissions program

W+K kicked off a global emissions program at the beginning of the year. The process looks at scope 1, 2, and 3 emissions for each office in the network, including gas, water, and energy usage, employee commutes, business travel, and the services and goods purchased to operate the business.

Worked with sustainability experts

W+K teamed up with outside experts in sustainability and corporate responsibility to ensure the network hits its targets and makes good on its promises. These experts include emission measurement and decarbonisation specialists Zevero, and Klimate, which helps responsible businesses offset the carbon emissions they cannot avoid.

Offset 1,500 tons of emissions

With Zevero's partner Klimate, W+K offset 1,500 tons of emissions in 2022 using high-quality carbon removal methods.

Joined Green the Bid

In the U.S, W+K is an active member of Green the Bid, a grassroots initiative supporting the ad industry’s movement to zero-waste, as well as carbon-neutral, sustainable and regenerative practices.

Changed production practices

With Green the Bid’s help, W+K implemented several sustainable best practices across numerous client productions, including reducing landfill waste on set, recycling sets, managing energy use, switching to bottle-less water services and recyclable service items and utensils.

Submitted B Corp assessment

After six months of gathering data from all eight of its offices, W+K submitted the initial W+K Inc B Corp assessment, taking a big step forward on the path to certifying its entire global network.

Produced lower-emission campaign

For Google’s “Every Decision Counts” campaign, W+K travelled to the shoot location by train using e-cars, e-scooters and bikes where possible, stayed in eco-friendly hotels, used vegan meals with Fair Trade products, avoided single-use plastics, and used mostly hybrid generators instead of diesel. The production reduced total emissions by one third compared with an average commercial production.
