Wind farm put into operation

ArcelorMittal and Casa dos Ventos have put 100% of the Babilônia Centro Complex into commercial operation in Várzea Nova, in the north-central region of Bahia. The wind farm was completed ahead of schedule in July, with 123 wind turbines and fully connected to the National Interconnected System, with full commercial operation authorized in October.

Low-carbon steel used

For the construction of the complex, ArcelorMittal supplied XCarb© rebar, a low-carbon steel. The product, used in the foundation of the wind turbines, is produced with 100% recycled metal and 100% renewable energy, which reduces carbon emissions in the production process by approximately 60%.

Sustainability report published

VEM chose to prepare its first Sustainability Report in advance of its regulatory obligations. The company says the report marks the official start of a journey made up of responsibility, respect for people, attention to the environment around it and a vision of the future it would like to build.

Photovoltaic system installed

At its headquarters in Forlì, VEM installed a 149.41 kWp photovoltaic system for the autonomous production of renewable energy. This intervention is complemented by an advanced Building Management System (BMS) for monitoring and optimising consumption in real time.

Plastic consumption reduced

To limit the use of disposable plastic, VEM has introduced water dispensers at all locations, phasing out small bottles. Each new VEMmer receives a personalised water bottle for daily use. This choice has led to a reduction in per capita plastic consumption.

Training with Senai completed

In partnership with Senai in the municipality of Conceição do Mato Dentro (MG), 22 students participated in electromechanical training. The course lasted two months and had a workload of 160 hours, combining theoretical and practical classes in an accessible and adapted environment.
