Mental health awareness content

It’s a common misconception that 90% of suicides are caused by mental illness and can therefore be prevented by treating or reducing mental illness. However, only about 46% of Americans who die by suicide have a known mental health diagnosis at the time of death (Bryan, 2022). Prevention strategies must therefore not only target the individual (e.g. mental health initiatives) but also the environment (e.g. bridge barriers and firearm restrictions). Compassionate care for BPD

Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD) is often misunderstood, but spreading awareness can assist in educating people, reducing stigma, and showing support for those living with BPD. Person-centered language

In mental health, stigma continues to shape how people are perceived and treated. To create truly safe and healing spaces, we must intentionally change the language we use when speaking about and to clients. Words carry power, they can either label and limit or affirm and empower. Shifting from pathologizing terms to person-centered, compassionate language helps clients feel seen, respected, and understood.

Mental health access concerns

There is an increased emphasis to pay closer attention to mental health and end the stigma against mental health issues while supporting people with various mental health struggles. In this area, great progress has been made but mental health care comes at a cost. Most individuals who access mental health care are able to afford the services and treatment needed to get better. This begs the question, what about mental health support to people from disadvantaged communities who cannot afford or access services?
