Switched U.S. operations to renewable power

Mars said all of its U.S. operations now run on 100% renewable electricity. That includes factories, offices, veterinary hospitals, and labs. The company linked this to a wider effort to cut greenhouse gas emissions, which are the gases that trap heat in the atmosphere and drive climate change. It also said this work helped it reduce Scope 1 and 2 emissions, meaning the pollution from its own sites and the energy it buys.

Cut emissions across its value chain

Mars reported a 6.4% drop in greenhouse gas emissions across its full value chain in 2025, and a 16.9% cumulative reduction against its 2015 baseline. A value chain is the full set of steps from raw materials to finished products. The company said this came from energy changes, operational decarbonization, and work with suppliers and farmers. It also said it had already met its Science Based Target for Scope 1 and 2 emissions, which means a climate goal set using methods that match climate science.

Expanded climate-smart farming

Mars said it grew its climate-smart agriculture work to more than 60 projects in 29 countries, covering 13 crops. Climate-smart agriculture means farming methods that try to cut emissions, protect soil, and help farms cope with heat, drought, and floods. The company said these projects support farmers, improve soil health, and make supply chains more resilient. It also named work on rice, peanuts, wheat, dairy, and cocoa as part of this effort.

Worked on deforestation-free sourcing

Mars said it has been working to remove deforestation from key supply chains, especially palm oil and cocoa. It said it reduced its palm oil mill partners from 1,500 to fewer than 100 to improve traceability, which means being able to track where materials come from. It also said it expanded child labor monitoring and remediation in cocoa, and supports the Living Income Differential, a fee meant to help cocoa farmers earn more.

Tied pay to emissions goals

Mars said it expanded the number of leaders whose long-term pay is linked to greenhouse gas reduction goals, growing this group to about 2,000 people. This means climate performance is now part of senior pay decisions, not just a separate report. The company said this is meant to make sustainability part of everyday business choices and to push progress across the organization.

Launched sustainability investment funds

Mars said it created the Mars Sustainability Investment Fund with up to $250 million in capital. The fund is meant to back new ideas in advanced agriculture, lower-emission ingredients, and packaging designed for circularity, such as recyclable or compostable materials. It also said it launched the Mars Impact Fund to support wider sustainability and philanthropic work. These funds show that Mars is putting money into new tools and business models, not only internal changes.
