Looptworks Sustainability Actions

Founded in 2009

He founded Looptworks in 2009 as an industry solution for turning excess materials into upcycled consumer products.

Shifted to B2B model

In 2022, Scott transitioned the company to a B2B business model focused on eliminating global textile waste through closed-loop solutions.

Provides ESG metrics

At Looptworks, we provide the metrics organizations need for their sustainability reporting, whether they follow Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) or Sustainable Accounting Standards Board’s (SASB) standards. Depending on the project, these measurements may include metric tons of carbon emissions avoided, gallons of water conserved, pounds of recycled materials used in place of virgin resources, and pounds of material cycled back into the economy versus ending up in landfills.

Built textile recycling facility

Today, we’re weeks away from kicking off operations—starting with vertical downcycling—at our 90,000-square-foot state-of-the-art facility in Gresham, Oregon. As we continue to build out our facility to offer automated sorting and deconstruction along with advanced fiber-to-fiber recycling, we are working to ensure that our space lives up to who we are as a brand.

Repurposed old building

We’re upcycling a 1970s building into a state-of-the-art facility. Looptworks is breathing new life into the building, reconstituting it back into a manufacturing environment.

Reused building systems

We’ve reused electrical fittings, electrical wiring, electrical conduits, junction boxes, isolation switches, air lines, air valves, air filters, and water lines all to make sure we throw away as little as possible and we recycle and repurpose as much as possible.

Worked with Energy Trust

We are working closely with the Energy Trust of Oregon to implement energy-efficient lighting, manufacturing equipment, and the star of the show—a proprietary HVAC system that uses pressure differentials to heat and cool the building, reducing our need for gas and offering enormous energy savings.

Partnered with City of Gresham

We’re partnering with the City of Gresham to offer jobs to people with barriers to employment. Through the City of Gresham’s WorkSource program, we connect with diverse community groups, from local colleges to women’s shelters.

Launched Loopt Foundation

The Loopt Foundation emerged with the mission to extend our expertise to spearhead a transformative revolution in the global textile manufacturing industry by eradicating pre-consumer waste. Founded by Scott Hamlin, CEO of Looptworks, the foundation is dedicated to sharing and cultivating knowledge within the industry, academia, and the upcoming generation of professionals.
