Renewable electricity in operations

LinkedIn says it has used 100% renewable electricity since 2022. It also says it buys renewable power through onsite solar, utility green tariff programs, and virtual power purchase agreements, which are contracts that help support new clean power projects. The company says it is also improving energy efficiency in buildings by upgrading lighting and temperature controls and electrifying campus cafes. These steps are part of its effort to lower the climate impact of its offices and data centers.

Zero-waste campus work

LinkedIn says it is turning its campuses into zero-waste facilities. In 2024, its San Francisco campus earned a gold-level Zero Waste Certification from UL, with a 97% waste diversion rate. Waste diversion means keeping trash out of landfill or incineration by reusing, recycling, or composting it instead. The company also says it is reducing single-use items, cutting delivery packaging from suppliers, and improving food service systems to make waste tracking and reduction easier.

Water-positive operations goal

LinkedIn says it is working to become water positive by 2030. Water positive means it plans to replenish more water than it uses. The company says it is lowering water use at data centers and office buildings, using reused and reclaimed water for non-drinking purposes, and supporting freshwater replenishment projects with Microsoft. It says these projects are third-party vetted, meaning an outside party checks them before they are funded.

Green jobs and skills support

LinkedIn uses its platform to support the green economy. It says it offers sustainability job collections, climate tech job collections, and more than 100 LinkedIn Learning courses on green skills. It also runs a Green Coaches program with workforce nonprofits to help jobseekers move into green careers. Since 2023, it says it has supported more than 11,000 people through webinars, group coaching, one-on-one guidance, and events in eight countries.

Employee green action group

LinkedIn says it supports more than 3,000 employees through its Go Green sustainability action group. The group helps staff build skills, take part in green projects, and speak up for climate action. This is an internal employee engagement effort, which means the company is trying to involve workers directly in its sustainability work instead of leaving it only to leadership teams.
