Burning Man roadmap goals
Burning Man Project set three goals in its 2030 Environmental Sustainability Roadmap. It wants to handle waste in a more ecological way, create a net-positive ecological impact, and become carbon negative, meaning it would remove more carbon from the air than it adds. These are long-term targets for its events and related community work.
2025
Hut 8 carbon neutrality target
Hut 8 said it aimed to achieve carbon neutrality by 2025. In the press release, this was described as a continued commitment, but it was still a future target at the time. The company said it was using carbon instruments, cleaner grid power, and operational changes to move toward that goal.
2031
WM emissions reduction goal
WM said it plans to reduce absolute Scope 1 and 2 greenhouse gas emissions by 42% by 2031 from a 2021 base year. Scope 1 and 2 are direct emissions from operations and emissions from purchased electricity. WM also said it wants to increase material recovery by 60% to 25 million tons per year by 2030, with a 2025 interim milestone.
