Honeywell Bakes Ltd Sustainability Actions

Certified B Corp

As a certified B Corp, sustainability runs through everything we do. ‘Sustainable’ is a very broad word; to us being it means that we are operating in a way that takes care of people and planet, so that our beautiful artisan biscuits and baking kits bring joy whilst treading lightly on the earth.

Uses solar and zero carbon energy

We now use a combination of on-site solar and ‘zero carbon’ energy. This is via our landlord, rather than through a direct contract. We are in regular discussions with our landlord, to ensure that the solar is utilised as best as possible.

Runs a recycling system

We have a comprehensive recycling system which means: Zero paper or card to landfill. Zero soft plastics to landfill. Zero glass to landfill. Zero food waste to landfill.

Reuses packaging and tools

We create infill packaging from cardboard, thus reducing the need to purchase infill packaging and also prolonging the cardboards’ life before recycling. Reuse boxes that come in for packing. Our cleaning products are all in refillable bottles. For most icing we use piping bottles, not bags. Our baking trays are lined with reusable, silicone sheets negating the need for baking parchment.

Works with local suppliers

Wherever we can we work with small, local suppliers. This is important in terms of both environmental and social impact and is something we review on an ongoing basis. Fill Refill is a local company that supplies the majority of our cleaning products. They are environmentally friendly and operate a closed loop system so the packaging is returned and reused.

Uses compostable packaging

Honeywell Bakes began at the kitchen table in 2012. The vision was to create beautiful hand iced biscuit gifts that cared for the planet as much as the people. All packaging is compostable or recyclable, with a target to create delicious food gifts for this generation and the next.

Trains staff on inclusion

Earlier in the year we had a training session for the whole team from Equality & Diversity UK, they do a range of courses both online and in person and are really fantastic. We all found it interesting and helpful and it encouraged conversations within the team about a range of factors.

Uses blind recruitment

One new thing we have implemented to help reduce any unconscious bias in our recruitment process is ‘blind’ recruitment. Applications will come to me, I will look at them and assess them next to the set criteria only. I will then anonymise the applications that pass by removing all personal information and giving them a number.
