What do our labels mean?

Dr. Bronner’s is a family-owned body-care company with a long-running sustainability and social-impact focus. Its reporting describes work on fair trade and organic supply chains, regenerative organic agriculture, employee pay and benefits, philanthropy, and climate action. By 2005, Dr. Bronner’s had launched the first organic and fair trade-certified supply chain for virgin coconut oil. It now has its own companies in Sri Lanka and other emerging economies, such as Ghana, where it produces organic palm oil and cocoa.

Published annual All-One! Report

Dr. Bronner’s released its eighth annual All-One! Report, which describes the company’s philanthropic efforts, environmental impact, and developments from 2021. The report discusses waste generation, gallons of water used, greenhouse gas emissions and electricity consumed, and was intended to document advancements toward limiting its carbon footprint.

Gave away profits to causes

Dr. Bronner’s gave away over 40% of profits, totaling $8.6 million in contributions, to approximately 300 organizations whose work advances causes including animal advocacy, drug policy reform, regenerative organic agriculture, fair pay and fair trade, criminal justice reform, and community betterment.

Set pay and benefits policies

The company’s employee benefits and company finances include fully-paid health insurance for all full-time employees, and the starting salary for permanent workers set at $22 per hour. Company policy is that the highest paid executive’s salary cannot exceed more than five times that of the lowest-paid fully-vested position.

Pilot the Purpose Pledge

Dr. Bronner’s is putting its energy into Purpose Pledge, an initiative it started developing two years ago with impact consulting firm Lift Economy and nonprofit One Step Closer. Twenty companies are piloting the initiative throughout 2025, and the pilot aims to define criteria for the pledge’s commitments.
