Second Reconciliation Action Plan

David Jones says it is running its second Innovate Reconciliation Action Plan, or RAP (a formal plan for improving relationships with First Nations peoples). The plan runs from August 2023 to August 2025. It focuses on supporting First Nations fashion creatives, giving more visibility to First Nations leaders, creating jobs for young First Nations people in retail, and staying active on issues that matter to Australians.

Spent with First Nations businesses

In FY24, David Jones says it spent about $1.6 million with First Nations businesses and individuals. The work covered services such as cleaning, catering, floristry, cultural advice and education, and general maintenance. It also says it is a member of Supply Nation, a network that helps organisations find and work with First Nations suppliers.

Supplier code and animal welfare

David Jones has a Supplier Code of Conduct that sets minimum rules for suppliers on labour, ethics, and environmental issues. It says suppliers must provide safe and fair working conditions, be open and transparent, improve environmental outcomes beyond the company’s own operations, and protect animal welfare. The company also says it can end supplier relationships if problems are not fixed.

Animal product restrictions

David Jones says it has an Animal Welfare Policy for private label suppliers and does not allow products made with fur, angora rabbit wool, or foie gras. It also says suppliers must keep records to show they are meeting animal welfare rules. This is meant to reduce harm in parts of its product range that use animal-derived materials.

Hidden Disabilities Sunflower

David Jones is part of the Hidden Disabilities Sunflower initiative, which helps people with non-visible disabilities signal that they may need extra support. It says customer-facing staff are trained to recognise the sunflower symbol and respond with assistance, kindness, and respect. The company presents this as part of a wider effort to make stores more inclusive.

Gender pay gap reporting

David Jones published a 2024–2025 Gender Pay Gap Statement. It says it wants a workforce that reflects its customers and communities, and it highlights the importance of transparent reporting on pay gaps between men and women. This is a labour and workplace issue rather than an environmental one, but it is part of the company’s wider ESG reporting.
