Yuna Yang Sustainability Actions

Sustainability as a core pillar

Since YUNA YANG New York’s debut at New York Fashion Week in Fall 2010, sustainability has remained a core pillar of the brand’s philosophy.

Used recycled gold fabric

One example of this mission is the transformation of recycled gold fabric into a ruffled top — a piece designed to be easy to care for while maintaining refined elegance.

Raised climate change awareness

For her collection in New York Fashion Week, designer Yuna Yang wanted to raise awareness about climate change. She said environmental sustainability begins at the design process and that she is determined to create a fashion business that respects both the planet and the people producing the clothes.

Used recycled organic cotton

Her latest collection, called "Save the Earth," is made in New York and uses Korean silks, recycled organic cotton, and lace and hand beading from India.

Limited mass production

"We are more like a high-end company, so we don’t do mass production," Yang said.

Supported local jobs

The clothes are produced a few blocks away from her design studio, and Yang said she was proud to contribute to jobs in New York, where she is based.

Supported female artisans

She also aspires to collaborate with female artisans from countries like Bhutan in order to preserve the culture of their handmade textiles and clothing while developing a business that empowers the local community.
