Circular use of wine barrels

What if one of the world’s most sustainable assets wasn’t digital, but wooden? Wine barrels are a global sustainability success story. They can remain in use for over 100 years, migrating across continents and industries, and still deliver consistent performance. Their simple construction means they can be refurbished and reused multiple times, with each stop along the way adding something unique to their flavour profile.

Leasing keeps barrels in use

We lease wine barrels to local producers, helping them access high-quality equipment without the upfront capital outlay, while also ensuring these sustainable assets stay in active circulation.

Light-weighting wine bottles

Upon calculating their carbon footprint in 2021, they realized that the weight of wine bottles and packaging makes up 24.4%, and when combined with product transport equals 38.9%. Therefore, they have embarked on efforts to light-weight their wine bottles, resulting so far in a 5% reduction in weight for 4 of their wine brands and a 2-3% reduction in emissions. These efforts have allowed them to achieve an estimated savings of $6.5 million.
