Watson & Wolfe presents itself as an ethical and sustainable accessories brand focused on alternatives to animal leather. The brand says it was founded after research into leather production revealed pollution, cruelty, exploitation, and environmental harm. Its materials are selected for reduced environmental footprint and long-term performance, including corn-based vegan leather, recycled linings, and FSC-certified cork. The company says it works with small factories in Portugal and Turkiye, uses plastic-free packaging, and aligns its work with UN Sustainable Development Goals 12, 13, and 15. It also says it is looking ahead to further localising its supply chain, reducing emissions, exploring new bio-based and recycled materials, and pursuing B-Corp certification.

Watson & Wolfe Sustainability Actions

Switched to vegan materials

What started as a research session on leather production quickly became a deep dive into an industry rife with pollution, cruelty, and exploitation. The vision for Watson & Wolfe changed overnight. Leather was out and was quickly followed by a vegan lifestyle and a journey to build an ethical and sustainable brand.

Uses corn-based vegan leather

Our primary material is made using non-food-grade corn. It delivers the look and feel of premium leather while generating 30% less environmental impact compared to other vegan leathers.

Sources recycled linings

We now source our rPET linings from Turkiye, a move that has dramatically reduced our transport emissions. These linings are created from 100% recycled plastic bottles and offer exceptional durability.

Uses FSC-certified cork

We use FSC-certified cork from Portugal for selected styles. This material is not only lightweight and water-resistant but harvested in a way that allows the tree to regenerate.

Works with artisan factories

We work exclusively with small, artisan factories in Portugal and Turkiye, longstanding partners to European brands, now embracing the future of ethical manufacturing. Each of our partner factories maintains ethical working conditions, implements fair pay and safe environments, uses green energy and minimises water use, and recycles production waste and manages air quality responsibly.
