Warner’s Sustainability Commitments
2022
Propose SBTi target
WMG calculated its first direct greenhouse gas emissions footprint (including emissions from Scopes 1 and 2, as well as employee travel) and will propose a target to the Science-based Targets initiative in 2022.
2022
Launch unrecouped advances program
It is also launching a legacy unrecouped advances program for eligible artists and songwriters who signed with WMG before 2000 and didn’t receive an advance during or after 2000. The program will also benefit other artist royalty participants such as producers, engineers, mixers, and remixers. It goes into effect for royalty periods starting July 2022.
2030
Source renewable energy
Warner is aiming to source 100% renewable energy across its global operations by 2030.
2033
Cut operational emissions
Warner Music Group has secured validation from the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) for its near-term emissions reduction targets, pledging to halve operational emissions by 2033.
2033
Reduce Scope 3 emissions
In addition to reducing its Scope 1 and 2 greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by 54.6% by 2033, compared to 2023 levels, the American music giant has committed to cutting its absolute Scope 3 GHG emissions by 32.5% within the same timeframe.
2050
Reach net-zero
In 2021, Warner, along with other major record labels Sony and Universal, signed up to the Music Industry Climate Pact to reach net-zero by 2050 and reduce climate impacts in line with science in the interim.
