Expanded electric and hybrid range

Volkswagen Australia now offers several electric and plug-in hybrid models, including the ID.4, ID. Buzz, Tiguan eHybrid, Tayron eHybrid, and Touareg R PHEV. These vehicles are meant to give drivers lower-emission options for everyday travel compared with older petrol or diesel cars. The company also says the ID. Buzz is fully electric and the ID.4 can travel up to 544 km on a charge. This shows a clear shift toward battery-electric and hybrid driving across parts of the range.

Added petrol particulate filters

Volkswagen Group said it would fit gasoline particulate filters, or GPFs, to direct-injection petrol engines from 2017. A particulate filter is a device that traps tiny soot particles before they leave the exhaust. The company said this could reduce fine particle emissions by up to 90%. It also said the rollout would cover many Group models, including Volkswagen, Audi, and Skoda vehicles. This was a technical change aimed at lowering air pollution from conventional engines.

Certified pre-owned vehicle program

Volkswagen Australia promotes certified pre-owned vehicles as a way to keep cars in use for longer. The company says these vehicles are pre-tested, come with warranty cover, and are checked before resale. Reusing vehicles instead of replacing them quickly can help reduce waste and extend product life. While this is not a full circular economy model, it does support longer use of existing cars and may reduce the need for new manufacturing in some cases.

Diesel emissions scandal response

Volkswagen Group’s emissions scandal remains a major part of its sustainability record. Independent reporting in the material says the company used software in diesel cars to detect test conditions and lower emissions only during lab checks. The cars could emit far more nitrogen oxides in real driving. The scandal led to fines, recalls, buybacks, and criminal and civil cases across several countries. This is a past action, but it still matters because it damaged trust in the company’s environmental claims.
