Velo Coffee Roasters Sustainability Actions

B Corp certification

Velo Coffee Roasters is officially a B Corp Certified Company and says it is the first coffee roastery in ROI to have joined 8090+ companies worldwide. The certification examines a company's impact across governance, workers, community, environment, and customers. Velo said the process involved a comprehensive evaluation of every part of its operations, from packaging choices to policies to sustainability targets.

Rainforest Alliance coffee

BMX and Tandem coffees are labelled with a Rainforest Alliance Certification. Velo said the seal promotes collective action for people and nature and means the product was produced using methods that support sustainability socially, economically, and environmentally. The company said both coffees are certified thanks to its Rainforest Alliance certified Brazil.

Fully recyclable packaging

Velo said that all of its coffee is now packed in fully recyclable packaging. It described this as part of its sustainable packaging commitments, introducing completely recyclable packaging to its retail coffee in 2021.

Traceability to the farm

Velo said it works closely with its green bean merchants, Covoya Specialty Coffee, to secure a direct line of traceability back to each farm. It also said it partnered with Covoya to ensure full traceability back to its farms and to develop lasting relationships with suppliers.

Donations to origin projects

From day 1, Velo said it donated .10 of every kg of Colombia coffee beans purchased to a fund that supports projects at origin. It said the fund covers everything from training to building bridges in local communities.
