Uggs R Us Sustainability Actions

Launched a sustainability site

UGG launched a separate Feel Good website to explain its long-term sustainability work. The site is meant to show progress across three areas: environment, community, and innovation. The brand said this was meant to make its actions easier to follow and to give more context on what it is doing and why. It also said the site would cover projects, partnerships, and product changes, so customers could see how the brand says it is trying to reduce harm and improve transparency.

Uses lower-impact materials

UGG has introduced some lower-impact materials in its products. Third-party sources mention repurposed wool, recycled polyester, sugarcane EVA, organic cotton, and some plant-based fibres. One source also says the brand uses UGGplush and UGGpure wool blends to reduce waste and lower water, energy, and carbon use compared with virgin wool. These changes do not make the whole brand low-impact, but they do show a shift away from only using conventional materials.

Set climate targets

UGG’s parent company, Deckers, has set science-based targets, which are emissions goals checked against climate science. Good On You says the company has a target to cut greenhouse gas emissions in both its direct operations and supply chain, though it is not on track. The Commons Earth says Deckers has short-term targets approved by the Science Based Targets initiative, or SBTi, a group that checks whether company climate goals match the Paris Agreement. This shows formal climate planning, even if progress is uneven.

Expanded repair services

UGG offers paid repair options and works with NuShoe, a repair provider. The Commons Earth also says the brand gives care instructions and a one-year warranty. These steps can help products last longer, which can reduce waste because people may replace items less often. The brand still does not appear to offer a take-back program, so repair is one of the main ways it supports longer product life.

Joined global and social programs

UGG joined the United Nations Global Compact in 2016, a UN business initiative that asks companies to follow basic rules on human rights, labour, the environment, and anti-corruption. It also supports HERproject, which runs workplace programs on health, financial inclusion, and gender equality. According to WWD, UGG had trained more than 33,000 women through HERproject and planned to reach 100,000 by 2027. The brand also donated $125,000 to GLAAD in 2020 to support LGBTQ causes.

Worked on regenerative farming

UGG said it started a collaboration with the Savory Institute for a regenerative farming project through the Land to Market program. Regenerative farming means farming in a way that aims to restore soil and land health instead of wearing it down. The brand said this partnership was part of its wider effort to reduce environmental harm and support land restoration. This is a supply-chain step, not a full solution, but it shows the brand trying to link materials to land management.
