Built its first Net Zero Home

Trico Homes’ first Net Zero Home is described as a testament to its commitment to building better communities. The home is designed and built to produce as much clean energy as it consumes, thanks to highly efficient construction, renewable energy sources, and smart home technology.

Certified B Corp since 2012

Trico says it is Western Canada’s first and only Certified B Corp homebuilder. As a Certified B Corporation, it says it adheres to standards of social and environmental performance, public transparency, and legal accountability. It adds that it has continued to champion initiatives that benefit people, profit, and the planet since its certification in 2012.

Added smart energy features

Trico Homes says it incorporates smart energy solutions that enhance efficiency and reduce energy consumption. Features listed include ENERGY STAR® rated appliances, low-flow water fixtures, LED light fixtures and bulbs, bath exhaust timer switches, an electric vehicle charger, an electric fireplace, and a Wi-Fi programmable thermostat.

Used high-performance systems

The Net Zero Home includes a high-performance solar energy system with maximum 11.4 kW solar panel output and SolarEdge Whole Home Consumption Monitoring. It also includes an air source heat pump for primary heating and cooling, a 96% efficient natural gas furnace for backup, a 65 US gallon electric water heater with an integrated heat pump, superior insulation, triple-glazed windows and doors, energy modeling, and a radon gas exhaust rough-in.

Upon possession of their new home, every Trico homeowner receives a Red Card with access to exclusive discounts provided by small businesses and trades and service providers that have partnered with Trico. The program is intended to support local businesses and encourage homeowners to shop local.
