Published annual impact reports

TOMS says it publishes an annual Impact Report to share what it has done in the past year and what it plans next. The brand points to reports for 2022, 2023, 2024, and 2025. This shows it is trying to track and explain its social impact over time, rather than only making one-off claims. The reports are meant to cover both community work and sustainability goals.

Gave shoes and grants since 2006

TOMS says that since 2006 it has given more than $200 million in grants and shoe donations, and more than 100 million pairs of shoes. It also says it has positively impacted more than 106 million lives. These figures describe the brand’s long-running giving model, which started with its One for One approach and later expanded into broader support for communities.

Uses nonprofit giving partners

TOMS says it works with nonprofit partners such as Save the Children, Didi Hirsch Mental Health Services, and GirlForward. The brand says these groups help connect purchases to support for children’s education, health, mental health, and well-being. This is a social-impact action, not an environmental one, and it shows the company uses partnerships to direct money and support to outside organisations.

Runs a resale partnership

TOMS says it has a partnership with thredUP, a resale platform that helps people send in gently worn shoes, clothing, and accessories in exchange for store credit. This kind of take-back and resale setup can help keep products in use for longer instead of sending them straight to waste. The brand describes it as giving old TOMS a new life.

Used lower-impact materials

A 2020 Braskem press release says TOMS added Braskem’s I'm green bio-based EVA to some footwear styles. EVA is a foam-like material often used in shoe soles. Braskem says this version is made from sugar cane and is carbon-negative, meaning the crop absorbs more carbon dioxide while growing than the material adds in production. The same release says one style also used TENCEL Lyocell lining dyed with a chemical-free process and an insole with 26% eco content.

Set a carbon footprint goal

A 2020 Braskem press release says TOMS committed to reduce its carbon footprint by 2025. The same source links that goal to material choices in production, especially the use of lower-carbon inputs. This is a future target, but it is also tied to an action already underway because the brand had started using the bio-based EVA material in some products.

Moved HQ to a smaller space

TOMS’s 2022 impact report says it moved its headquarters to a smaller, more efficient space in Culver City to reduce its overall carbon footprint. This is a practical operations change, not a product change. The report presents it as part of the brand’s effort to lower emissions from its own business activities.

Expanded plastic-free packaging

TOMS’s 2022 impact report says the brand went plastic-free in packaging except for tag fastener loops, and that all Earthwise products are 100% plastic-free. It also says samples use 100% recycled LDPE poly bags. LDPE is a common type of plastic, so using recycled LDPE means the material has already been used before. This suggests the brand has made some progress on packaging waste.

Supports employee volunteering

TOMS says employees get annual days off to give back. The brand also describes volunteer work with partners and community groups in its impact materials. This is a social action because it gives staff time to support outside causes rather than only doing paid work.
