Expanded rooftop solar

Tod’s added more rooftop solar panels at its headquarters and manufacturing site in Italy in 2024. The system totals 740 kWp, which is a measure of how much power the panels can produce. SolarEdge said the setup covered about 78% of daily energy use and cut around 126 tonnes of carbon dioxide from April to December 2023, using a location-based method (a way of counting emissions based on the local power grid). Tod’s also had an earlier solar installation in 2017 and later added another system at its Montecosaro site.

Measured product footprints

In 2024, Tod’s worked with Bain & Company and Green Story to assess the full lifecycle impacts of three iconic products. Life cycle assessment (a method for tracking environmental impact from raw materials to disposal) helps brands see where emissions and other impacts happen. The project was meant to support more detailed carbon footprinting and help the company understand how to reduce product-related impacts over time. The company said the work fits into a wider sustainability agenda focused on measuring and gradually lowering the environmental impact of its products.
