The Leather Store says it cares as much about the planet as it does about the quality of its products. It makes handmade leather bags and accessories designed to last in design and wear for years. Its sustainability page describes a low-waste approach, use of vegetable-tanned leather, REACH-compliant tanneries and nickel-free brass hardware, recyclable packaging, living wages for people involved in production and distribution, and donations of end-of-line sample bags and customer returns to charities supporting women.

Vegetable-tanned leather used

Our vegetable-tanned leather is Chrome VI laboratory-tested and approved to meet stringent EU standards. Both tanneries we work with are REACH-compliant. This is a regulatory body of the European Union, created to improve the protection of human health and the environment from the risks posed by chemicals in industry and our everyday lives.

Low waste hide use

Our low waste policy means we aim to use as much of each hide as possible. From our larger totes, purses, wallets and accessories down to our leather zip tabs, waste is kept to an absolute minimum.

Recyclable packaging

Each bag comes with a pure cotton protective dustbag and a recyclable pot of natural leather balm made by a British company. All of our bags are wrapped and shipped in recyclable packaging.

Living wage for workers

Every person involved in creating, supplying, and distributing The Leather Store products is paid a living wage.

Support for small businesses

As a small business, we love supporting fellow small businesses in the UK. We use small businesses for our photography, models, packaging, stationery, ribbons and everywhere else we can.
