Regenerative sourcing model

Market Driven Regenerationâ„¢ influences the ingredients we source and products we make, distribute, and sell in order to have a positive impact on people and the planet throughout our business. This is a long-term aspiration and a collaborative journey which relies on the principle of interdependence between people and planet that guides all of our actions.

Focus on ecosystems and packaging

We take responsibility for our footprint throughout our operations and supply web, starting with supporting the regeneration of the priority ecosystems from which we source our key ingredients. Our focus areas include climate, water, waste and packaging, forests and biodiversity and regenerative agriculture.

Support for communities

We support the livelihoods and well-being of the producers we source from, the communities where we work, and the customers who sustain us. Our focus areas include human rights, livelihoods and well-being, yerba mate culture, justice, equity, diversity, inclusion, product quality, health, nutrition and working conditions, health and safety.

Annual impact reporting

As a registered Social Purpose Corporation, we are proud to report on our social and environmental performance every year. Our annual Impact Report reflects the progress we made on our impact strategy and programs for the previous year, and is a combination of long-standing, ongoing projects as well as new initiatives and progress updates.

Shade-grown yerba mate

Guayakí sells canned beverages and loose leaves of yerba mate, a traditional plant found in the South American Atlantic rainforest. The company develops long-term partnerships with indigenous producers and smallholder farmers that harvest yerba mate or grow it under the shade of native trees, a method that requires less water than conventional agriculture and helps to regenerate and conserve the land.

Regenerated rainforest land

In 25 years of operations, Guayakí has regenerated 80,000 hectares of South American Atlantic rainforest, having planted 7,200 trees. This has restored biological corridors and over 900 species (plants, mammals and birds) have been observed in harvested and cultivated areas, including rare and endangered species.

Fair trade and living wages

Their "Fair for Life" certification ensures that every worker along the supply chain—from the indigenous communities harvesting the mate to the factory workers—receives a living wage, with additional premiums paid above market prices to promote fair compensation.

Certified organic sourcing

All yerba mate produced or harvested must be organic certified and producers receive a premium price for the product, which makes it more economically appealing than degenerative alternatives, such as using the land for cutting trees to sell timber or for conventional agriculture.
