The Garment presents sustainability as a responsibility to understand and reduce environmental impact, stating that producing new garments is not sustainable. Its approach is framed around buying less and buying right, with an emphasis on timeless craftsmanship, durability, and garments made in a more responsible manner. The brand also highlights specific environmental initiatives, including mangrove tree planting with Sea Trees and support for Bee:Wild in 2024 to help wild bees and other pollinators. It was founded in 2020 and has been screened by Copenhagen Fashion Week’s Sustainability Committee for AW26 compliance with the Minimum Standards.

The Garment Sustainability Actions

Responsibility statement

"SUSTAINABILITY IS ABOUT OWNING LESS BY BUYING RIGHT." PRODUCING NEW GARMENTS ISN'T SUSTAINABLE, AND WE DON'T PRETEND THAT IT IS. WE DO, HOWEVER, HAVE A RESPONSIBILITY TO UNDERSTAND AND REDUCE OUR ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT. FOR US, SUSTAINABILITY IS FIRST AND FOREMOST ABOUT OWNING LESS BY BUYING RIGHT. OUR JOB, EVERY DAY, IS TO MAKE BEAUTIFUL GARMENTS IN A MORE RESPONSIBLE MANNER.

Planted mangrove trees

WE HAVE TOGETHER WITH SEA TREES PLANTED 4,340 MANGROVE TREES IN THE BIAK ISLAND REGION OF INDONESIA. MANGROVES ARE LIKE SUPER TREES; NOT ONLY DO THEY ACT AS BUFFERS AGAINST STORMS AND CYCLONES, THEY ALSO PROVIDE HABITAT FOR FISH AND OTHER WILDLIFE AND PROTECT THE SHORELINE FROM ERODING. BUT NOT LEAST, THEY ALSO STORE 5-10X MORE CO2 PER HECTARE THAN TROPICAL RAINFORESTS.

Supported Bee:Wild in 2024

IN 2024 WE DECIDED TO SUPPORT OUR GOOD FRIEND EVA KRUSE AND HER NEW PROJECT BEE:WILD. WHY DO WE THINK IT’S SO IMPORTANT TO HELP SAVING OUR WILD BEES AND OTHER POLLINATORS – WELL, FOR STARTERS, THEY KEEP US FROM GOING HUNGRY. IN FACT, 70 OUT OF 100 CROP SPECIES THAT FEED 90% OF THE WORLD ARE POLLINATED. WILD BEES AND OTHER POLLINATORS ARE DISAPPEARING AT AN ALARMING RATE, AND THEY NEED OUR HELP.
