a2 Milk Company Sustainability Commitments
2030
Net zero Scope 1 and 2
The company says it aims to reach net zero greenhouse gas emissions for Scope 1 and Scope 2 by 2030. Scope 1 means direct emissions from its own operations, while Scope 2 means emissions from purchased electricity. It says this target is on track and is supported by boiler conversion work, renewable electricity use, and fleet electrification.
2040
Near zero Scope 3 emissions
The company says it wants near zero Scope 3 emissions by 2040. Scope 3 covers emissions across its wider value chain, especially on-farm methane from cows. It says this is the hardest part of its footprint and that it is using science-led farm tools, data systems, and partner projects to try to reduce it.
2030
Cut Scope 3 intensity 30%
The company says it plans to reduce Scope 3 emissions intensity by 30% per kilogram of fat and protein corrected milk by 2030, compared with its FY21 baseline. Emissions intensity means emissions per unit of product, so it measures efficiency as the business grows. The company says it has already made progress, but still has more to do.
2026
Expand farm sustainability funding
The company says it will keep funding farmer-led sustainability projects through the a2â„¢ Farm Sustainability Fund. For 2026, it says the funding pool is NZD 800,000 and grants can be up to NZD 35,000, or AUD 30,000. The fund supports projects linked to climate, nature, cows, and communities, and the company says it will continue using it to back practical on-farm action.
