Tekla Sustainability Actions

Published annual responsibility report

We do not call ourselves a sustainable brand – bringing new products into the world is fundamentally at odds with the definition of sustainability, so it would be irresponsible to do so. But we do strive to be more responsible by measuring our impact so we can better understand how to mitigate it. We report on this annually to provide transparency and support change in our industry.

Achieved 15 sustainability goals

This is our fourth report assessing our impact across four key areas – climate action, materials, traceability and social responsibility – as we worked towards the 19 sustainability goals we set in 2022. We’re proud to have achieved 15 of them in this time, alongside gaining B Corp certification in 2023.

Measured annual carbon footprint

We measure our company’s carbon footprint annually to understand where our impact lies and where to focus our efforts. In 2024, our emissions increased compared to 2023. This was expected: after the early gains from implementing the initial responsibility goals and key decarbonisation actions within our control – such as material choices and production energy – further reductions become more complex.

Met goals for products and trims

By 2024, we had already met all our goals for products, packaging and trims. We have continued to monitor our use of preferred materials and standards for the main textiles of our products, defined as having less environmental and/or social impact in comparison to conventional materials.

Improved supplier visibility

Our two remaining traceability goals – 100% visibility across tiers 1-3 suppliers and verified assurance of high social and environmental standards across the entire supply chain – were ambitious. While we didn’t fully achieve them, we’re proud of our progress: Maintaining 93% or higher visibility of suppliers across tiers 1-3 for core and seasonal products, decreasing to 85% or higher when accounting for products made in connection with a collaboration.

Added on-product GOTS certification

Achieving on-product GOTS certification for 96% of products by volume, providing assurance even where full supply chain visibility is lacking.

Created first due diligence assessment

We created our first due diligence assessment, informed by the OECD Guidance for Responsible Supply Chains in the Garment and Footwear Sector. Many potential risks are already mitigated through our sourcing strategies and use of preferred materials and certifications.

Became B Corp certified

In 2023, Tekla met B Lab’s high standards and joined a global movement of people using business as a force for good by becoming B Corp certified.
