Achieved B Corp certification

Starting today, StartDock can proudly call itself a B Corp! This certification is awarded by B Lab to companies that meet high standards in five areas: governance, employees, community, environment, and customers. For StartDock, this certification marks the next step towards a sustainable business operation. In 2022, StartDock embarked on the journey to become certified as a B Corp.

Introduced the Energy Portal

In 2022, StartDock introduced the Energy Portal. This portal allows StartDock's customers to access real-time usage data for electricity, gas, water, and CO2 emissions per day and per individual on location. StartDock also updated its energy dashboard for Dockers, allowing them to see their energy costs precisely.

Offset CO2 emissions at locations

Starting from May 1, 2023, StartDock offsets all CO2 emissions generated by its locations (energy, water, and gas) through traceable climate projects via Cawa. StartDock later said it decided to only compensate for all gas it used, after reviewing how compensation was being applied.

Installed water-saving measures

Water-saving devices have been installed on faucets across all StartDock locations (where they were not already present). StartDock also installed water-saving devices on all its faucets and in all toilet cisterns at each location, and used stickers to encourage people to use the smaller flush button.

Added smart lighting

The first spaces at StartDock's Herengracht location have been equipped with smart lighting. StartDock also said it would continue installing smart lighting in common areas at all locations, and that lighting plays a significant role in its energy consumption.

Launched volunteering leave

This quarter, StartDock introduced a new program that allows colleagues to take two paid days off per year for volunteering outside of StartDock. The company said it had a team dedicated to contributing their time outside of work for years, mostly during weekends, and now enables them to volunteer during work hours as well.

Started a weekly language café

In collaboration with Aleta Languages, StartDock has initiated a weekly language café to assist people in practising the Dutch language, free of charge.

Reassessed suppliers

StartDock has reassessed its suppliers, considering sustainability certifications and best practices. It also said it would continue its search for sustainable suppliers and was exploring the purchase of sustainable office chairs.

Introduced sharefunding

StartDock has initiated sharefunding to engage Dockers and colleagues more in the company's growth. For the expansion from five to ten locations, StartDock has consciously chosen to involve colleagues, Dockers, and other interested parties in the financing.
