SPELL is proud to be B Corp certified. Following years of dedicated effort to undertake the rigorous assessment by B Lab, the company says it has become a Certified B Corporation. This global certification recognises organisations that utilise thriving business as a force for good and meet the highest standards of social and environmental performance, transparency and accountability.

Carbon neutral operations

Spell is carbon neutral certified for its business operations by Climate Active, Australia’s government-backed carbon neutral certification program. The certification extends to global operations, including business activities in Byron Bay, business travel, and the packaging and shipping of products around the world. Spell says it has reduced emissions where possible and compensated for the remainder by investing in carbon offset projects.

Launched Spell Salvage

In its 2023 Impact Report, SPELL said it launched Spell Salvage, its end-of-life garment takeback program for the Australian community.

Reduced garment bag use

SPELL said it eliminated the use of 3,215 garment bags in a year by using a roll-tie method for its denim.

Introduced virtual sampling

SPELL introduced virtual sampling, reducing the need for physical samples and cutting emissions from shipping.

Reported preferred fibres

SPELL reported that 90.4% of its total fibres were preferred fibres, and 14.1% of its total fibres were from recycled or regenerated sources.

Supply chain code of conduct

SPELL says it has always asked its global partners to abide by a strict code of conduct, outlining health and safety, paying makers above the legal wage, fair working hours, voluntary overtime compensated at premium rate, and no child labour. It also says suppliers are independently certified and audited against recognised standards and programs.
