Small Beer Brew Co. ltd Sustainability Actions

Built a dry floor brewery

It’s why we’re the world’s first brewery to operate a dry floor policy, drastically reducing the amount of water needed in the brewing process that has seen us save more than 8 million litres of water to date!

Saved water in brewing

Since embarking on our first commercial brew in 2017, we’ve saved more than 6.5 million litres of water, inspiring positive change across the industry.

Uses renewable energy

We clean our brewery with recovered heat and water. All of our electricity comes from the wind, sun and sea, with all our gas coming from anaerobic digestion from food waste.

Uses recycled packaging

The labels and boxes that we use for packaging our beers are 100% recycled and so are the grain sacks that we receive from our malt supplier.

Became a B Corp brewery

In 2019, our sustainable business practices led us to become London's first and only B Corpâ„¢ brewery.

Donates to environmental causes

Since the very start of our Small Beer journey, we have sought to use our business as a force for good, which is why we donate a portion of our annual revenue to environmental causes.

Supports Project Coral

This means that every year, we donate 1% of our revenue to help the museum make a positive environmental impact and reduce water usage in their aquarium. Our donation also helps the amazing team at the aquarium to promote Project Coral, a pioneering research programme, which aims to regenerate reefs and support sustainable livelihoods threatened by climate change.

Reuses spent grain

We carefully collect the spent grain and deliver it to a farm partner where it's used as feed for pigs.

Brews in South Bermondsey

Small Beer is brewed entirely in our brewery in South Bermondsey, which helps to reduce our carbon footprint and boost our sustainability credentials.
