Carbon neutral service

A Carbon Neutral Service. We understand the need to remove Greenhouse Gas (GHG) emissions from our activities; however, we are aware that this reduction process can take time to implement as processes and technologies adapt to support this endeavour. Whilst we are actively reducing the emissions of our washroom hygiene systems as much as possible, we are also taking responsibility for what remains by offsetting 100% of our emissions.

Ethical waste management

We made a commitment when we started our Simply Washrooms journey that we’d never send any of the hygiene waste we collect to landfill. It’s a promise we’ve kept. All the hygiene waste we collect is taken to our transfer station where it’s sorted for recycling and recovery. The waste we collect from our washroom hygiene systems is never sent to landfill. From here, its collected and sent to local energy from waste (EfW) plants where it’s turned into a renewable fuel source which is used to power our homes, hospitals, schools, and businesses.

Recycled plastic hygiene bins

We were the first business in our sector to develop and use feminine hygiene units made from recycled materials – significantly reducing the environmental impact of this service. In 2021, we launched the first fully recycled hygiene bins in the industry after partnering with Kennedy Hygiene and sourcing recycled plastic aggregates from UK suppliers.

Emission reduction programmes

As a service partner, we have unavoidable movement of people and vehicles to our clients’ premises. We’re working hard to minimise the impact this has on the plant by investing in our electric and low carbon fleet. We also offset our road fuel purchasing through a carbon offsetting initiative that funds climate action programmes.

Closed-loop plastic recycling

Our closed-loop recycling programme ensures that end-of-life plastic products are fully recycled into materials for new products. This initiative has already led to 42% of all input plastic now recycled, up from 27% in 2022, and 26% of plastic in use being re-used or reconditioned bins.
