SHEIN's 2024 Sustainability and Social Impact Report outlines the company's progress in environmental, social, and governance (ESG) initiatives, emphasizing their commitment to sustainability through the evoluSHEIN roadmap. Key achievements include improved supplier governance, significant investments in community empowerment, and advancements in decarbonization efforts, with a 58% reduction in carbon emissions.

Allocated $85 million

Shein has allocated an additional $85 million across a five-year period toward its initiatives supporting social and environmental governance. The funds are earmarked to support the company’s “Equitable Empowerment” program, with $50 million directed toward aspiring designers and $35 million toward women, young people and the underprivileged.

Joined sustainability initiatives

SHEIN is a member of Textile Exchange, a signatory to the United Nations Global Compact, a signatory to the Women’s Empowerment Principles, a signatory of World Circular Textiles Day, a signatory of the Microfibre 2030 Commitment, a signatory to the Race to Zero campaign, a member of amfori, a signatory to Canopy’s CanopyStyle initiative, has joined Green Fuel Forward, and has joined Business for Societal Impact (B4SI).

Uses on-demand model

Its on-demand business model, enabled by its digitalized supply chain, is transforming the traditional manufacturing process and reducing excess inventory waste—a widely recognized challenge in the fashion industry and a significant source of textile waste globally.

Supports supplier communities

As part of the Supplier Community Empowerment Program, the company has said it wants to help its manufacturing supplier community transform traditional production models. Some of those enhancements include technology advancements, factory and facilities enhancements, and additional training and upskilling for workers and services for communities within Shein’s supplier ecosystems in Brazil, China and Turkey.
