Samsung Sustainability Commitments

2027

Reach 100% renewable energy in DX

Samsung said it aims to transition its Device eXperience division and all overseas sites to 100% renewable energy by 2027. This means it plans to buy or use only renewable electricity for those parts of the business. The target is part of its wider climate plan and is meant to cut emissions from operations.

2030

Hit net zero in DX operations

Samsung said it aims to reach net zero carbon emissions for Scope 1 and 2 emissions in its Device eXperience division by 2030. Scope 1 means direct emissions from its own operations, and Scope 2 means emissions from purchased electricity. It also said it plans to reduce power use by 30% on average across major models in seven product categories.

2030

Apply recycled plastic to half of parts

Samsung said it aims to apply recycled plastic to 50% of plastic parts in DX products by 2030. It also plans to expand its e-waste collection system to all global sales regions and collect 10 million tonnes cumulatively. These goals are meant to support a more circular economy, where materials are reused instead of thrown away.

2050

Reach company-wide net zero

Samsung said it aims to reach company-wide net zero carbon emissions for Scope 1 and 2 by 2050 and to transition to 100% renewable energy by the same year. It also said it wants to apply recycled plastic to 100% of plastic parts in DX products and collect 25 million tonnes of e-waste cumulatively. These are long-term targets across operations and products.

2030

Reduce water withdrawal

Samsung Semiconductor said it aims to reduce water withdrawal to 2021 levels by 2030. Water withdrawal means the amount of water taken from the environment or supply systems for use in operations. The company said it is working on water recycling, reuse of treated wastewater, and better water use in manufacturing.

2030

Recycle nearly all waste

Samsung Semiconductor said it aims for 99.9% waste recycling by 2030. This means almost all waste from its operations would be reused or recycled instead of sent to landfill or incineration. The company said it is improving waste separation and recycling systems to reach that target.

2040

Cut pollutants to natural levels

Samsung Semiconductor said it aims to bring air and water pollutants down to natural-state levels by 2040. In plain terms, it wants pollution from its operations to be reduced as far as possible. The company said it is working on cleaner processes and better treatment systems to move toward that goal.
