Quinola Mothergain Sustainability Actions

Fairtrade sourcing from cooperatives

Quinola now works with over 700 farmers from Fairtrade cooperatives. It says it has raised funds for the Coopain farmers to help modernise their techniques, with sustainability at the forefront. Since 2012, it has generated an extra $320k through the Fairtrade premium for its farmers.

Guaranteed fair pay

It is important to Quinola that its farmers are looked after and treated fairly. By working with the certified cooperatives, it guarantees a minimum price for the farmers’ crops and pays a Fairtrade premium, ensuring that farmers and their families earn a sustainable income.

Offset maritime carbon emissions

Quinola says it offsets its maritime carbon emissions for the transportation of quinoa from Peru to Le Havre, France. It works with the Pur Project on a reforestation initiative planting trees in the Peruvian Amazon and says it offsets every gram of CO2 emitted by the transport of quinoa from Lima, Peru to Le Havre in France.

Plastic neutral packaging

Quinola’s packaging goes plastic neutral. It says its ready to eat solutions use plastic pouches and that it contributes to a scheme in India run by Repurpose, which empowers waste workers to collect single use plastic from the environment.

Work with disabled workers

Once its quinoa has landed in Le Havre, its grains and flakes are packed in a workshop that employs people with learning disabilities. Quinola says it works with a work assistance establishment in France whose objective is to help adults with disabilities in the workforce.
