Osaka Labs Sustainability Actions

Carbon neutrality vision

The Daigas Group aims to become carbon neutral by 2050. It plans to reach the goal through decarbonization of its gas and electricity by introducing methanation to generate gas with renewable energy and hydrogen and by increasing the share of renewables in its power generation portfolio. The group announced its “Carbon Neutral Vision” in January 2021.

Energy Transition 2030

Energy Transition 2030 was formulated in March 2023 to share with stakeholders the Daigas Group’s strategy for achieving carbon neutrality by 2050. It includes the overall picture of the transition to low carbon and carbon neutral energy and the group’s transition initiatives and solutions for a lower carbon society.

GHG reduction target

The Osaka Steel Group has established a GHG reduction goal to decrease Scope 1+2 emissions by 46% from 2013 levels by 2030. Progress toward last year’s target stands at 31%.

Recycling of iron resources

Osaka Steel is an EAF steelmaker, and EAF steelmakers engaged in the recycling of iron using this CO2-free ironmaking process are gaining importance. Osaka Steel says it will contribute to the creation of a sustainable society through the very business of iron resource recycling.

Internal zero emission

Steel slags, dust, and other byproducts are generated in the ironmaking process. Osaka Steel strives to reduce byproducts mainly by recycling most of them both internally and externally, and maintains a high recycling rate currently at approximately 90% or more. It says it will continue to promote efforts to achieve internal zero emission.
