Ohoy Swim presents itself as a Danish/Finnish swimwear brand founded in 2016 with a focus on slow fashion, ethical production, and ocean protection. Its sustainability approach centres on using recycled and regenerated materials, including ECONYL® yarn made from pre- and post-consumer waste such as carpet flooring, industrial plastic, and some fishing nets. The brand also donates 1% of sales to Healthy Seas, supports the recovery of abandoned fishing nets, and has moved manufacturing to Portugal to keep production closer to home and improve supply-chain transparency. Packaging and product tags also use recycled materials.

Uses ECONYL® yarn

The brand uses ECONYL® yarn - a polyamide yarn with the same performance and quality as virgin nylon without having been produced with the use of non-renewable fossil raw materials. ECONYL® yarn is a 100% regenerated nylon yarn derived from pre and post consumer waste such as; carpet flooring and industrial plastic rescued from all over the world and fishing nets.

Donates 1% to Healthy Seas

We donate 1% of sales to Healthy Seas, that might not seem like a lot, but we believe that if this becomes the new standard for all brands, 1 percentage can do a lot. Healthy seas was founded in 2013, has collected 905 tonnes of discarded fishing nets and other marine litter for fabric production.

Moved production to Portugal

With time we have made the decision to manufacture in Portugal. Keeping the production in Europe means we are able to reduce our footprint by not sending fabric to the other side of the world and it also provides us the transparency we seek throughout our supply chain.

Uses recycled packaging

Each product has a hangtag made from recycled papers, attached with a recycled cotton string and wearing a non single-use plastic hygienic liner. They are packed in a small recycled organic cotton bag that can be used for lots of other things.

Supports small factory in Sri Lanka

Although we have made the move from Sri Lanka to Europe we think it’s important to continue supporting small businesses in under developed nations. Large communities rely on this work. Therefore we are still producing our 'Bees Wax Sunshine Hats' with Mr Ajith in Sri Lanka and we will continue to support them as best as we can.
