Native Shoes presents itself as a footwear brand focused on making it easy for people to “Live Lightly.” Its sustainability-related activity includes the use of biobased materials, animal-free design, and a recycling programme for well-loved shoes through the Native Shoes RemixT Project. In 2022, the brand launched The Robbie using a sugarcane-based EVA blend and Braskem’s I'm green bio-based EVA polymer. The available material also states that Native Shoes is working to increase the bio-based content of its proprietary SugarliteT material through design and innovation.

Launched The Robbie

Native Shoes launched The Robbie footwear, created with Braskem's renewable and carbon negative I'm greenTM bio-based EVA polymer. Native Shoes designed The Robbie with Generation Do in mind. SugarliteT is Native Shoes' proprietary sugarcane-based EVA-blend material. Making up both the upper and midsole materials, SugarliteT offers the same lightweight, easy-clean, and odor-resistant properties for which Native Shoes are known and loved but has a greenhouse gas impact that is 22% lower than traditional EVA.

Uses bio-based materials

Native Shoes said it was on a mission to make it easy for all to Live Lightly, and that this design philosophy is behind every new shoe it creates. The company said it was innovating biobased materials and animal-free design. Currently, SugarliteT contains 40% bio-based content from Braskem's sustainably sourced I'm greenTM carbon negative EVA sugarcane-based biopolymer.

Runs RemixT recycling

Fully recyclable via the Native Shoes RemixT Project, Tiny Activists can easily mail their old shoes - including the Robbie - back to Native Shoes for free, where they will be given a second life as playgrounds for local communities in Vancouver, British Columbia.
