Nanamica’s sustainability-related content centres on material choices and collaborations that reduce environmental impact. In October 2024, the brand announced a limited edition fleece collection with PRISTINE made from 100% natural fibres, including non-mulesed wool, organic cotton jersey and recycled polyester zippers. The collaboration was described as part of a shared desire to contribute to reducing marine pollution and to avoid microplastics released by polyester fleece. Nanamica also references its slogan, “ONE OCEAN, ALL LANDS,” and the belief that the ocean is one and the world is connected.

Launched real fleece collaboration

Nanamica is launching two outerwear items made with 100% natural fiber “Real fleece” in collaboration with PRISTINE, an original brand created by Avanti, a pioneer in promoting organic cotton in Japan. This collaboration was born from the shared desire to contribute to reducing marine pollution, which has become a serious environmental issue in recent years.

Used natural fibre materials

The two models featured in this collection are a unisex zip-up stand collar jacket and a fleece coat based on a military liner coat. Both are reversible designs, featuring a non-mulesed wool exterior with short pile and an interior made from organic cotton jersey. The stand collar jacket uses a zipper made from recycled polyester.

Highlighted microplastic issue

Polyester fleece releases microplastics, which fall off during washing and flow into the ocean, polluting not only the water but also negatively impacting the food chain and air, which has become a growing issue in recent years. However, this real fleece is made from 100% natural fibers, so there’s no concern about microplastics being released during washing.
