Top ESG rankings in 2023

Moncler Group was reported to have topped the Dow Jones Sustainability Indices World and Europe for the sixth year in a row in the textile, apparel and luxury goods sector. It also received the highest AAA rating in MSCI ESG Ratings for the second year in a row. These are third-party assessments that compare companies on environmental, social, and governance performance, which means how they manage issues like climate, workers, and business conduct.

Published yearly sustainability reporting

The group says it reports every year on its sustainability performance and targets in its consolidated nonfinancial statement. A nonfinancial statement is a report that covers topics like emissions, workers, and social impact instead of sales or profit. This shows that Moncler has an ongoing reporting process for ESG topics, rather than only making one-off claims.

Renewable power and site carbon neutrality

Moncler said that in 2023 all electricity used at its directly operated corporate sites worldwide came from renewable sources. It also said those sites were carbon neutral, meaning the company says it balanced out the emissions from those locations. This applies to its own sites, not necessarily its full supply chain.

Recycled textile waste and nylon

The company said it recycled 100 percent of nylon scraps from its own direct sites in 2023. It also extended recycling to its external outerwear production network, reaching 55 percent of total outerwear nylon scraps. Textile offcuts are leftover pieces from production, and recycling them can reduce waste and the need for new raw materials.

Lower-impact materials in collections

Moncler said more than 25 percent of the yarns and fabrics used in its 2023 collections were made with preferred raw materials, such as recycled, organic, or certified materials. It also said more than 40 percent of the nylon used in those collections came from recycled materials. The company had set a goal of reaching 50 percent preferred yarns and fabrics by 2025.

Traceability of key raw materials

The group said it achieved traceability for strategic raw materials. Traceability means it can follow materials back through the supply chain, which helps it track where inputs come from and better measure impacts on carbon, water, biodiversity, and social conditions. It also said this supports better management of sourcing risks.

Community support and cold-weather aid

Moncler said it supports local communities through social projects and helps protect vulnerable children and families from the cold. It reported that since 2017 it has protected 140,000 people in need. It also said it invested 3.6 million euros in local communities in 2023, up 33 percent from 2022.
