Merrell Sustainability Actions

Launched This Is Home

On April 6, 2022, Merrell announced “This Is Home,” a multi-year sustainability initiative designed to inspire consumers to protect the nature that shapes their everyday lives. The campaign focuses on digital, social, and connected TV while showcasing Merrell footwear and apparel that is made with more sustainable materials. The goal is to inspire people to get outside while minimizing their environmental impact.

Started Merrell ReTread

Merrell launched Merrell ReTreadSM, a multinational product takeback and resale program, which will save 300,000 pairs of footwear from landfills. The program allows consumers to give back Merrell footwear. Once received, the footwear will be repaired and refurbished for resale, broken down for use in new products, or recycled for alternative uses. Merrell partnered with ReCircled to implement the program.

Introduced sustainable products

Merrell has released products made with recycled and other lower-impact materials, including Moab Flight with a 70% recycled mesh upper and 100% recycled laces, Moab Speed with a 100% recycled mesh lining and laces, Hydro Moc made with BLOOM™ algae, and Whisper Rain Shell crafted from 100% recycled nylon. The Eco Dyed Collection is described as using less water, less energy, and 100% recycled laces.

Released Scrap collection

Merrell launched the “Scrap” collection, a limited-run offering featuring the Jungle Moc, Moab 3 and Moab Speed models, each partially made using excess materials from the production line. The collection was launched to coincide with Zero Waste Week and is intended to divert excess materials from the waste stream.
