L’Oreal Sustainability Commitments
2030
Reach 100% renewable energy
L'Oréal says it aims to use 100% renewable energy on its operated sites and stores by 2030. Operated sites are places the company runs itself, and renewable energy means power from sources like wind or solar that can be replaced naturally.
2030
Cut direct emissions by 57%
The company says it will reduce absolute Scope 1 and 2 greenhouse gas emissions by 57% compared with 2019 by 2030. Scope 1 and 2 are the emissions from its own operations and the energy it buys.
2030
Reduce supply chain emissions
L'Oréal says it will cut absolute Scope 3 emissions from purchased goods and services, upstream transport, distribution, and business travel by 28% compared with 2019 by 2030. Scope 3 covers emissions outside the company’s direct control, especially in its supply chain.
2030
Source more sustainable materials
By 2030, L'Oréal says it wants to sustainably source at least 90% of biobased materials used in formulas and packaging, and source over 75% of ingredients from nature or recycled materials in formulas. Biobased means made from plant or other natural sources.
2030
Reduce virgin plastic use
The company says it will cut the use of virgin plastic in product packaging by 50% versus 2019, and source 50% of packaging materials from recycled or biobased sources. Virgin plastic means new plastic made from fossil fuels, not recycled material.
2030
Support communities and wages
L'Oréal says it aims to help 100,000 people from disadvantaged communities gain access to employment, and to have 100% of strategic suppliers sign a living wage pledge with a time-bound action plan by 2030. A living wage is pay that should cover basic living costs.
