Kirstin Ash Jewellery Sustainability Actions

Cut plastic packaging use

Kirstin Ash says it has reduced plastic packaging in its supply chain by 70%. It also says it removed bubble wrap mailer bags and now uses 100% recyclable mailers with recycled newspaper padding. Soft plastics collected in the studio are sent to a recycling facility so they can be turned into new products such as bin liners and food packaging. This shows a move away from single-use plastic and toward reuse and recycling.

Switched to recycled packaging

The brand says its jewellery boxes are made from 100% recycled card and paper. It also says the boxes use eco-friendly inks and that its travel pouches are reusable and made from vegan suede, which means a synthetic material made without animal leather. The packaging is designed to be reused rather than thrown away after one use.

Uses conflict-free materials

Kirstin Ash says its suppliers source conflict-free gold, silver, rhodium, palladium and diamonds. It also says its diamonds follow the Kimberley Process Certification Scheme and the World Diamond Council System of Warranties, both of which are meant to reduce the risk of conflict diamonds entering the market. The brand also says it uses cultured pearls and tries to use each pearl regardless of shape or size to avoid waste.

Works on supply chain standards

The brand says it wants more transparency across its supply chain and works closely with suppliers to support responsible business practices. It says its suppliers are members of the Responsible Jewellery Council, a group that promotes responsible ethical, social and environmental practices. It also says suppliers follow amfori BSCI and Sedex SMETA standards, which are audit systems that look at worker health and safety, labour conditions and environmental impact.

Supports charities and causes

Kirstin Ash says it has designed and donated 100% of profits to charities and disaster relief, including support for the 2020 Australian bushfires and the Christchurch earthquakes. It also says it has worked with charities, school fundraising efforts and COPE, a non-profit focused on the mental and emotional wellbeing of new parents. This shows the brand has used its products for social fundraising and community support.
