INTERSPORT presents sustainability through a mix of retail operations, product information, and supply-chain initiatives. The group has developed an ESG Scorecard to standardize sustainability metrics across thousands of products, from textiles to skis. Intersport Sweden has joined CanopyStyle to avoid sourcing textiles from ancient and endangered forests and to support lower-impact alternatives. Intersport Elverys reports initiatives covering recycled packaging, recycling infrastructure, solar panels, energy efficiency, water harvesting, diversity and inclusion, and partnerships linked to delivery and electricity supply. The available content shows a focus on measuring impact, improving circularity, and reducing operational footprint across parts of the INTERSPORT network.

INTERSPORT Sustainability Actions

ESG Scorecard launched

INTERSPORT Group wanted to move beyond the multitude of sustainability interpretations and create a unified way to measure progress. The result? A business-to-business ESG Scorecard designed to standardize sustainability metrics across thousands of products - from textiles to skis.

Joined CanopyStyle

Intersport Sweden has pledged to stop sourcing any textiles from the world’s ancient and endangered forests by joining CanopyStyle and to promote the manufacture of low-carbon, circular, next-generation alternatives instead.

Recycling centre investment

In 2020, Intersport Elverys made a substantial investment of over €1 million into a state-of-the-art recycling centre located at our Castlebar HQ. The recycling centre is equipped to handle the recycling of the main packaging materials that arrive into the warehouse – timber, plastic and polystyrene.

Solar and energy upgrades

Electric vehicle (EV) charging points have been installed on-site in our Support Centre and available to staff to use to help ease carbon emissions. A water harvesting system has been installed in our Support Centre to manage and store waste and rainwater more effectively and ease water consumption as well as cutting costs. LED lighting upgrade across a number of stores to reduce energy usage. Solar panels have been installed in 10 stores and at Support Centre to utilise renewable energy sources.

Reusable pallet box system

In 2024, we successfully retained this award with our reverse logistics recycling and distribution initiative through the introduction of a Reusable and Recyclable Pallet Box System, and the significant results achieved.
