Hope for Flowers by Tracy Reese is a Detroit-based sustainable clothing brand founded in 2018. The brand says it is building a “sustainable collection curated to foster an ecosystem of responsible fashion” and that each piece is made from organic and ethically sourced materials and produced in ethically responsible factories. Its stated mission includes positive social impact through free arts programming for youth and adults, collaboration with local artisans in Detroit, and support for women and young people. The brand has also described its approach as a slower, more sustainable fashion model.

Hope For Flowers Sustainability Actions

Launched Hope for Flowers

Founded in 2018, Hope for Flowers by Tracy Reese is a sustainable collection curated to foster an ecosystem of responsible fashion. Each piece in the collection is crafted from organic and ethically sourced materials as well as produced in ethically responsible factories.

Released Into Fall collection

The sustainable clothing brand’s 10-piece collection titled “Into Fall” features a tight edit of skirts, shirts and slipdresses in bold prints with a self-described “autumn feeling” the designer admits is intentionally pared-down. All pieces in the collection are 100 percent Tencel Lyocell, a lower-impact fiber many denim players have embraced.

Started Detroit programming

Hope for Flowers is working on its facility and programming following the web site launch in June. The focus will be to create free arts education for youth on the weekends and workshops for adults during the week, according to Reese.

Partnered with Nest

This fall, Reese will partner with nonprofit Nest in its Makers United program, which is coming to Detroit this fall. The initiative, already in Austin and San Antonio, Tex., harbors craftsmanship and economic independence by linking crafting communities with resources.

Worked with Naturalizer

Naturalizer and Tracy Reese launched their joint initiative, the “Hope for Flowers” sustainable capsule footwear collection. The collection includes recycled materials in toe boxes, insoles, fiber board and strobel materials and linings, environmentally preferred materials in fabric uppers, responsibly sourced leather through Leather Working Group silver and gold rated suppliers, and packaging made with 80% recycled paper and eco-conscious soy-based ink.

Grow Detroit-made pieces

Going forward, Reese said she really wants to be able to offer a few more unique pieces. Pieces that are made in Detroit and hand-embellished, too.
