Hestia says it is the first childcare organisation in the Netherlands to become Bcorp Certified. Following Bcorp's high standards helps us to improve every day and improve the way we work in a sustainable, inclusive way.

Children learn in nature

Each location has a green area in which we grow our own food and educate children by involving them in the growing process. We teach children about all the wonders of nature and think it is important that children are outside every day. So whatever the weather, children play outside at Hestia and enjoy the fresh air and the changing nature.

Our food is organic and we play with recycled materials as much as possible.

SDG checklist in practice

In that first project cycle, the consultant group supported Hestia in finding ways in which the organisation could further cement the SDGs in their written policies and day-to-day practice. In the end, they produced a checklist of goals through which Hestia strives for positive impact in regards to sustainability in their daily operations.

Improving site sustainability

Hestia tasked us with finding ways to improve the locations in regard to water and energy consumption, possibly CO2 reduction, as well as greening of the residences. Ideally, we will also use the time throughout this project to find a baseline measurement to assess the energy proficiency and sustainabilisation of Hestia to allow for comparison amongst the locations, and over time.

Bilingual and inclusive care

Inclusion and diversity are paramount at our locations. Hestia is a home for all children, parents and employees. We welcome these home languages at our locations and encourage curiosity about what we do not know and create respect for perspectives that are different from ours.
