Havaianas presents its sustainability approach as a focus on both planet and people, with an emphasis on product life cycles, circularity, and responsible production. The brand says it is rethinking raw materials, production, transport, final disposal, and new life cycles, and that it seeks increasingly sustainable products made from recycled materials and/or renewable sources. It also states that it wants to work with partners and suppliers that share its values, and to generate a positive impact on communities. Publicly available material also refers to Alpargatas S.A.’s sustainability strategy and annual sustainability reporting.

Havaianas Sustainability Actions

97% sandals with reused rubber

Today, 97% of our sandals are already produced with around 40% of reused rubber.

Invested in materials innovation

R$ 20 million invested in increasing our ability to innovate in materials and processes. Every year, we revisit our products based on fashion and world trends. We continually re-evaluate our portfolio, research new raw materials, seek partnerships and connect the brand, designing more sustainable products capable of building systemic solutions together with partners.

ReCycle program

Havaianas ReCYCLE Program. We value the principles of the circular economy, which is why we continually work to improve waste management throughout our production process through the redesign of processes, investments in innovation and infrastructure, articulation and development of partnerships and awareness of our stakeholders.

Praia + Limpa cleanup

In June 2023, Havaianas brought visibility to its ReCycle project in the third edition of its beach cleanup initiative Praia + Limpa (“cleaner beach” in Portuguese.) The initiative gathered a group of 128 volunteers and helped remove more than 200 kg of trash off of the beaches of Ilhéus, a city in the northeastern state of Bahia.
