Science-based climate targets

Hallmark says it has approved science-based targets for cutting greenhouse gas emissions by 2030. It says it aims to reduce emissions from its own operations by 46.2% and from its wider value chain by 27.5%. Science-based targets are climate goals that follow a method used by the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi), a group that checks whether company targets match climate science. Hallmark says this work covers its products, content, energy use, forestry, and transport.

Renewable electricity rollout

Hallmark says it has moved its owned operations to renewable electricity. It says its Liberty, Missouri distribution centre started using 100% renewable electricity in 2021, and the rest of its owned operations in the United States and globally completed the switch in July 2023. It also says it opened a solar array at its production centre in Lawrence, Kansas in 2024. Renewable electricity means power from sources like wind or solar instead of fossil fuels.

Supplier emissions programme

Hallmark launched its CARE Supplier program in 2022 to work with suppliers on emissions. The company says its top suppliers are encouraged to measure their emissions, set reduction targets, improve energy efficiency, and move to 100% renewable electricity for making products and raw materials by 2030. This is a supply chain programme, which means it reaches beyond the company’s own sites and asks suppliers to change how they operate too.

Paper recycling since 1943

Hallmark says its sustainability work dates back to 1943, when it started its first paper recycling program. It presents this as an early step in a longer effort to reduce the environmental impact of its business. The company also says it is working on product and packaging design to lower emissions and reduce waste across operations and the supply chain.

ESG framework and governance

Hallmark Care Homes says its ESG work is led by a dedicated committee and has been assessed by Sustainability Advantage, an external provider. It also says its leadership team takes responsibility for sustainable business practices and that the board and executive team aim to stay accountable, transparent, and ethical. ESG means environmental, social, and governance issues, which cover climate, people, and how a business is run.
