Half Wild: Trading Sustainability Commitments
2032
Cut emissions by 2032
Bird & Bird has committed to reduce absolute Scope 1 and 2 greenhouse gas emissions by 55% by FY2032 from a FY2023 base year. It also plans to cut absolute Scope 3 emissions by 50.4% over the same period. Scope 1 and 2 cover direct emissions and purchased energy, while Scope 3 covers other emissions in the value chain, such as travel and suppliers. These targets were validated by the Science Based Targets initiative, which checks whether company targets match climate science.
2040
Deep cuts by 2040
Bird & Bird has set longer-term targets to reduce absolute Scope 1 and 2 emissions by 90% by FY2040 from a FY2023 base year. It also plans to reduce absolute Scope 3 emissions by 90% by the same year. These targets show a much deeper cut across the firm’s own operations and its wider value chain. The company says it is developing a net zero roadmap to support these goals.
2040
Reach net zero by 2040
Bird & Bird has committed to reach net zero greenhouse gas emissions across its value chain by FY2040. Net zero means balancing the greenhouse gases it still produces with removals or cuts elsewhere, so the overall total reaches zero. The firm says this is part of a wider plan that includes greener energy use, less waste, and lower travel emissions.
