Gaze Burvill places care for the environment at the centre of its work in design, manufacture and business operations. Founded in 1993, the company makes outdoor furniture and kitchens from oak and other timber sourced from managed forests, with suppliers that are PEFC or FSC certified. It says sustainability is essential to its future and sets aside 1% of turnover for an environmental causes fund supporting Woodland Heritage. The workshop at Lodge Farm uses a biomass boiler fuelled by production waste and solar panels on the roof, and the business also focuses on recycling, reduced water use, and long-lasting design.

Gaze Burvill Ltd Sustainability Actions

Set aside 1% of turnover

“Sustainability is essential to our future. Embracing this principle, Gaze Burvill sets aside 1% of turnover for its environmental causes fund, which supports the work of Woodland Heritage, a charity devoted to improving the sustainable management and health of the UK’s forests.”

Uses certified timber

The oak used in its outdoor kitchens and outdoor furniture is grown and imported from forests in France, and the company says it takes great care to ensure that all timber suppliers are PEFC or FSC certified.

Installed solar panels

In 2016, PV array (solar panels) were installed on the workshop roof, reducing consumption of non-renewable energy whilst shifting energy use towards renewable sources. The panels generate 44Kw of power directly into the workshop with any surplus being fed back into the National Grid.

Uses biomass heating

The state of the art premises are heated throughout by a modern bio-mass boiler fuelled by the company’s production waste. The energy generated by the boiler provides heating across the workshops, offices, display area and two cottages.

Recycles waste materials

Reducing and recycling waste is described as one of the simplest and most effective ways to be a sustainable business. The company recycles waste paper, packaging and plastics used in the offices and workshops, and says there is no plastic packaging or waste when shipping its products.
