What do our labels mean?

Foreword Coffee Pte Ltd is a social enterprise coffee company founded in 2017 with a mission to mainstream disability and normalise inclusion. Its sustainability approach combines social inclusion with environmental practices, including disability hiring, inclusive workplace culture, waste reduction, reuse of glass bottles and coffee bags, and the use of paper cups, bagasse straws, and selected supplier materials. Inclusive hiring and workplace

Foreword Coffee received the Enabling Mark (Platinum) Award for the second time in 2024, renewing its commitment towards disability hiring and an inclusive workplace culture. Having an inclusive work culture allowed the company to have over one-third of its employees identifying as a person with disability or having a mental health need.

Return and reuse glass bottles

Customers and clients are encouraged to return their glass bottles after they have consumed drinks during events, and Foreword Coffee will wash, sanitise, and reuse them for the next events. By doing so, it can reduce the number of new glass bottles being used and help to lengthen the lifespan of a reusable product.

Repurposed waste into furniture

One of the ways waste is repurposed is by turning discarded milk bottles and caps into furniture. Each set of furniture consists of about 200 milk bottles and caps, produced by local company Semula. Other furniture is also consciously chosen based on the materials, including recycled plastic, organic wood fibre, and cardboard.

Reduced disposable waste

Foreword Coffee serves drinks in double-walled paper cups for both hot and cold drinks, eliminating the need for cup sleeves and reducing disposable waste. Suppliers are carefully selected based on their sustainability practices, such as the use of FSC-Certified paper and bagasse straws made from sugarcane pulp instead of traditional plastic straws.

Promoted Bring Your Own

Foreword Coffee promotes the Bring Your Own (BYO) movement by providing incentives for customers at all cafe locations. The company believes businesses play a large role in nudging consumers towards more sustainable practices.
