Ete Lunettes, operated by Key Optical Europe S.R.L., presents itself as a four-generation eyewear manufacturer with a focus on handcrafted spectacles and artisanal materials. Its profile states that the company replaced horn and tortoise shell with cellulose acetate derived from the cotton plant, described as lasting longer for the wearer and being environmentally friendly. The collections page also highlights hand placement of feathers between acetate sheets and hand engraving on plexiglass frames, reflecting a craft-led approach to eyewear production. The available content is primarily product and heritage focused, with limited explicit sustainability information beyond material choice and handcraft methods.

Ete Lunettes Sustainability Actions

Replaced horn and tortoise shell

Up to this day, the fourth generation has preserved this passion for eyewear, replacing the horn and tortoise shell with cellulose acetate, a material with more stable properties derived from the cotton plant, thus lasting longer for the wearer and environmental friendly.

Handcrafted spectacles

Key Optical Europe is a young, dynamic, and modern company, the descendant of four generations of eyewear manufacturers. A tradition that began in France in 1924 with Gustave Rege-Turo, our Italian great grandfather, an artisan who hand crafted spectacles using horn and tortoise shell as base materials.

Hand placed feather materials

The treated and tinted feathers are placed by hand, one by one, in a symmetrical manner, between two acetate sheets. The colours combined with the natural patterns of the feathers, produce new materials, making each ETE frame unique and exclusive.

Hand engraving on plexiglass

This collection has been obtained from a Plexiglass sheet, a highly transparent and crystalline acryl material, exalting even more the engraving effect achieved entirely by hand through the use of micro cutter without the help of any mould nor laser.
