Record lending in 2024

In 2024, Charity Bank reached a new record, disbursing £70.0 million in new loans to UK charities and social enterprises, building on the £53.5 million distributed in 2023. These funds helped to build affordable homes, expand vital services, and empower organisations working at the heart of their communities.

Expanded green lending

During 2023-24 Charity Bank expanded its activity in the green lending space with blended finance products to support energy efficiency investments by social sector organisations. The bank says these efforts are part of its broader strategy to help borrowers transition to a low-carbon future while reducing operating costs.

Launched Brighter Futures Fund

In 2024 Charity Bank launched its Brighter Futures Fund, using a portion of surplus funds to support impactful organisations that fall outside the scope of traditional lending. The bank says the fund reflects its commitment to inclusive finance.

Published ESG reporting

Charity Bank published its Environmental, Social and Governance Report 2024 and says it publishes details of its operating emissions and the emissions financed by its loans in its annual accounts. Since 2023, it has offset its measured operating emissions through credits purchased from Forest Carbon.

Assessed loans for impact

Charity Bank only provides loans to organisations that are actively working to improve society. Each loan is assessed not just for financial viability but also for the social impact the borrower aims to deliver, with impact measured against diversity, additionality, environment, locality and depth of need.

Supported ethical savings

Charity Bank says its ethical savings accounts provide a stable source of funds for lending to impactful organisations. In 2024, 5,561 savers were supporting good causes through the bank.
